Meet Dr. Martin

Dr. Kathleen Martin

Certified Specialist in Orthodontics

Dr. Kathleen Martin was born and raised in London, Ontario and after studying Life Sciences at Queen’s University and Dentistry at Western University, she moved from Ontario to British Columbia for her orthodontic specialty training at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

She excelled in both research and clinical training during her studies, having won numerous academic, teaching and national/ international research awards including the Ontario Dental Association Proficiency Award, American Association of Orthodontists Charley Schultz Resident Scholar Award, and the CIHR Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship. Her research interests focused on periodontal tissue engineering and craniofacial embryonic development.

Following her three-year orthodontic residency, the mountains and ocean won her over, and in September 2018 she set sail to Vancouver Island to practice here in Nanaimo and Ladysmith. In addition to providing orthodontic treatment at Bellamy Orthodontics, she has been an orthodontic consultant on the Cleft Lip and Palate Team in Victoria, BC since 2020. This multidisciplinary team provides care to children across the island affected by these conditions.

Outside of the office, Dr. Martin can be found road cycling, hiking, playing piano, traveling and taking yoga classes. She and her husband Fabian are so fortunate to call Nanaimo home!
